No More Ice Hole Waiver for Spring 2026!

We removed the ice holes, BUT there is still lake access!

Sauna Information and FAQ

What is a sauna session?

Each public session is 80 minutes long and limited to EIGHT people at Lake Nokomis and TEN people at Bde Maka Ska. One seat in a public sauna session is $30. Sessions start every hour and a half during operation. The sauna is always run and staffed by a trained Host during opening hours. The host cleans the sauna between sessions, and stokes the fire. They can answer questions when you show up. We provided Hosts for both public AND private sessions.

Current Hours:

Wednesday: 4:30PM-9:30PM (Nokomis only)

Thursday & Friday: 4:30PM-9:00PM

Saturday & Sunday: 9:00AM-9:00PM

Hours of operation change seasonally.

Sessions begin every hour and a half.

If you reserve the Sauna for a private group you can bring up to TEN people at Nokomis and TWELVE at Bde Maka Ska. You can also bring children and teenagers if you so choose.

What do I bring and where do I change?

Please bring a towel, sandals or water shoes, and a water bottle to your sessions. We will provide bins for extra clothing. There is not a dedicated space for private changing. Please plan accordingly.

What do I do at the sauna? I've not really done this before...

An 80 minute sauna Session allows you to relax in the hot room for 15-20 minutes, then take a break outside in the water or cool air for 3-7 minutes. You may repeat this cycle through the course of your session several times. We keep the temperature of the hot room around 180 degrees Fahrenheit and the water in the lake is between 40 and 65  degrees Fahrenheit (depending on the season). We will do our best to maintain open access to the lake all season.

Sitting in the hot room for your whole session is not recommended.

Is there really an ice hole cut in the lake?

We removed the ice holes at both Bde Maka Ska and Nokomis. However, there is still access to the lake at both locations.

Can I get a refund? Reschedule? What if I'm sick? Who can I bring? Is there a lost and found? Etc.

Up front, we cannot make this small operation sustainable by making last minute refunds and credits. If you are sick, or have another circumstance come up that requires you to change your appointment, we need at least 24 hours notice to reschedule you. We cannot guarantee a reschedule or credit without 24 hours notice. Below are details on rescheduling:

  • Sales on this platform are final. We do not issue refunds.
  • You may reschedule yourself up to 24 hours before an individual appointment.  Simply click on the "reschedule appointment" button on your confirmation email. If you have multiple appointments, you need to reschedule ALL your appointments individually.
  • If you need to cancel your appointment for any reason, send us an email through the web-page at least 24 hours in advance. We will cancel your appointment and reschedule you for a later date, or credit your account.
  • Any requests for a reschedule or credit less than 24 hours in advance cannot  be guaranteed.
  • If you are sick, please let us know so we can cancel your spot and offer it to someone else. The rescheduling guidelines above still apply.

What is FoxFire Breathworks? Is this sauna run by Minneapolis Parks?

FoxFire Breathworks is a small business started in 2023 by Nick Fox, and is an extension of Nick's practices around Breathwork, Deliberate Cold Exposure, and Sauna. He built the mobile Sauna at Lake Nokomis in 2024, and the mobile Sauna at Bde Maka Ska in 2025. All of the Sauna Hosts that help run the sauna come from the sauna and ice-dipping world. They also live near the sauna they host.

The saunas will remain in their respective parking lots and will be open for public use as long as the Parks continue to issue permits. 10% of all proceeds at the sauna go back to Minneapolis Parks. FoxFire and the Parks have a good relationship and we hope to keep it that way!
